“Camp Shalom” is a Christian youth summer camp offering kids camps and special needs programs.
As the summer camp ministry of Countryside Camp and Conference Centre, Camp Shalom strives to provide campers and special-support guests with fun and educational programming in a safe, accepting and, above all, Christ-centered environment. Our summer camp staff members are hired because of their leadership skills, spiritual depth, and quality of character. |
The Discipleship training program at Camp Shalom has been a life changing experience for hundreds of teenagers. Join us for four weeks of intensive community building, character development, leadership training, and spiritual formation. The program includes: in-depth Bible studies, speakers on formational topics, a week-long mission trip to inner-city Toronto, co-counselling a cabin of adults who have special needs and helping out in the community through local service opportunities.

The Next Generation Missional Engagement Fund helps make it possible for children, youth, and young adults to engage in Christ’s kingdom mission around the world. The fund supports mission trip scholarships for groups and individuals.

The RCA Welcomes Rick Zomer as Next Generation Engagement Coordinator
The RCA welcomes Rick Zomer to its staff as the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement. Rick will be leading Team Next, which prepares and empowers the next generation to embrace God’s call on their life as leaders and serve as agents of change in their world.
Zomer comes to the position with 25 years of experience working with youth. His life, he says, has been “deeply shaped by a calling I feel from God to serve his kingdom through working with young people." He followed that call to student life positions at several colleges and universities, including Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He also served Calvin College in a number of leadership roles, most recently as the director of event services.
“These experiences have put me in daily contact with young people who are growing deeply in their faith, as well as those who have walked away from a personal relationship with God and a commitment to the church,” He says. “As a result, I have developed a passion for helping young people grow and mature in their faith... as they seek to discern God’s call on their life.”
RCA general secretary Tom De Vries is excited to see Zomer pursue that passion as the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement. “Rick's past experience and passion for mentoring young people in their faith make him an excellent fit for the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement,” says De Vries. “I look forward to seeing him use his leadership gifts to equip congregations to raise up the next generation of Christ followers who engage in kingdom work.
