Two great tools are now available on the RCA website! The first tool has the rather ponderous title: “Tool for Using the Principles of the Belhar Confession in Planning and Evaluating". It’s a very practical, behaviorally oriented tool that helps individuals and groups assess and evaluate almost anything (conversations, relationships, meetings, events, and initiatives) against the three principles of the Belhar Confession – unity, reconciliation, and justice. By using the tool over time, a person or group can chart progress in growing through these principles. The tool comes with a guide that provides excellent context information on the use of the tool. The tool and its guide are located in the Belhar Study Center portion of the RCA website. To access the tool, please scroll down to the bottom of that web page and click on the “Download the tool” option. The second tool is called “Welcoming Diversity: An Inventory for Congregations”. This comprehensive tool helps identify hidden barriers that can hinder people from other racial/ethnic backgrounds from feeling at home in our congregations. Additionally, it can help local churches (as well as classes, regional synods, educational institutions, and other organizations) become more effective in embracing people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds in ways that help them find honorable places among us. This tool also comes with a guide that provides excellent context information about its use. The Welcoming Diversity guide is located in the Multiracial Future: Resources section of the RCA’s website. To access the Welcoming Diversity tool, please scroll down to the bottom of that web page and click on the download options.
